Trip to Paris-Part One, French Castle

Last week was basically a national holiday in Switzerland called "Ski Week". All of the kids have off of school so we decided to take a long weekend and travel to Paris. The drive was about 5-6 hours away. We spent the first night in a castle located about an hour outside of the city. It was really beautiful and the boys absolutely loved the idea of spending the night in an actual castle. They kept asking if the king and all of the knights were going to be there! The castle had acres of gardens that I am sure would be beautiful in the spring and summer months. Since not too many people travel to France this time of year, we were one of the only few guests there. Here is a write up on the castle:

Château d'Esclimont was built for the Archbishop of Tours in 1543 and, since then, has been the home of aristocrats, statesmen and politicians principally because of its proximity to Versailles and Paris. Today, it stands supreme within a 150-acre wooded park surrounded by its moats and pond, the epitome of the perfect French château.

I am sure some of you read Kevin's e-mail regarding our dinner experience. I'll post it to my blog for those of you who did not see this:

So we are in a Castle an hour outside of Paris, we are one of only 22 rooms booked this evening so we can't blend in at all, thankfully we're the first one's in for dinner, beautiful place that turns out to be 30+ euros/plate ($40+) and our kids are coloring pictures of dump trucks and using the solid silver forks to launch their toy dragons (we had expected other dragons at dinner as well, as dragons live in castles of course) around, both gagged on their prosciutto appetizer- one because he hated it, the other because he shoved it all in his mouth, a gentleman came around offering bread which he was supposed to put on our plates w/tongs but that Auston just grabbed out of the pile with his hand, 3 min later he has his finger imbedded in it and is shouting "look at my bread finger!", dinner arrives for the kids which we knew would be beef with French fries, well its filet, medium rare filet, the kids like it but again more gagging, first Alex, who had roughly half a cow in his mouth which he deposits in my napkin which I keep on my lap for the duration of the meal, then Auston who fights it off but sends me over my line, now I'm laughing so hard I'm crying....and wiping my eyes w/a regurgitated steak filled napkin, at this point Auston is about cashed out, he crawls into Ali's lap and asks when we can go to our room, when told he was mere minutes away from pajamas, he excitedly announces his intention to get on his Batman pajamas and come back down and show everyone, truly a great idea because all of the other patrons must love us by now, they'll be ecstatic when we leave...only to return 5 min later in our pajamas!
